Overview

The Army CIO organization produces numerous high-level documents used to inform, shape, and influence the Army and other organizations. SMS is seeking a Strategic Communication Specialits to help provide well-written, properly formatted communication to ensure the documents are clearly understood by the intended audience.  Additionally, the candidate will produce short videos and captions, create and edit numerous materials, including daily social media posts related to CIO policies and priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and help coordinate strategic initiatives across the Army CIO.
  • Develop various messaging and documentation in support of the CIO.
  • Required to coordinate, collaborate, and consolidate information across various Army and DoD organizations and other stakeholders, as needed.
  • Provide high-quality editing in support of the CIO/SIG and directorates by incorporating historical, factual, and analytical knowledge in writing and editing support.
  • Edit work documents provided by those organizations and ensure that they follow the appropriate Army style guides; Documents in this category include, but are not limited to:  articles, speeches, talking points, information papers, decision papers, white papers, strategies, and plans
  • Research, coordinate, and write original documents, some of which will be technical in nature and focus on Army information technology, signal, and cyber issues.
  • Other duties as required.

Duty Location: Telework most days currently; however, an onsite requirement may be needed in the future, so the candidate must be local to the National Capital Region.  Onsite at the Pentagon, Washington DC; at Fort Belvoir, VA; or at other alternate locations within the National Capital Region, with a requirement to attend meetings at Government locations, as needed. 

 

Travel: Some travel may be required as directed by the CIO.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, Marketing, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Master’s degree in communications, Marketing, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent experience preferred, but no required.
  • Knowledge management of files, folders, graphics, and other documents. 
  • Expertise in photography is required to support the capture of high-quality visual content for internal and external communication. 
  • Have comprehensive knowledge of Army communication processes. 
  • Have executive-level research skills using classified and unclassified information and executive writing and communication skills.
  • Direct and relevant experience in the above areas at the C-Suite or GO/SES level
  • Expert-level editing and technical writing skills
  • Ability to research, coordinate, develop, edit, and prepare briefings, articles, speeches, talking points, handouts, or other materials that provide internal and external outreach in terms of CIO roles and responsibilities
  • Develop a knowledge management strategy to be approved by the government and manage access to and maintain all artifacts in accordance with this strategy
  • Currently possess, and retain, an active DoD Secret clearance.
