Sr. Linux System Administrator

SMS is looking for a Linux System Administrator to work on one of our contracts at Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico. This position is responsible for providing Tier I/II Linux Support and Administration services to Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) - Phillips Research site Information Systems Management (PRsISM) contract. You will, under minimal supervision and in conjunction with enterprise services, install, configure, and maintain various EL7/8 & Windows installed Server and Desktop systems, corresponding software/services and support light networking needs.

• Troubleshoot problems associated with assigned server, desktop hardware, operating systems, and application software.
• Resolve problems or escalate for further support.
• Provide recommendations for hardware, systems software, and capacity planning.
• Evaluate new and existing application software products. Recommend upgrades or new purchases.
• Server tasks include storage administration (nfs/smb), permissions(POSIX/ACL), backups, and division specific services
• Desktop tasks will include day-to-day operations for user workstations and workflows
• DR/Continuity planning
• Create and maintain systems documentation
• Basic Networking (Wired and Wireless)
• Work in conjunction with Windows and Network Administrators for systems integration.

Required Qualifications

• Currently hold or be able to obtain a DoD Secret Security Clearance 
• Currently have or ability to quickly obtain a DoD 8570 IAT-2 certification, such as CompTIA Security +CE
• 2 or more years of Linux support or administration in an enterprise environment
• 2 or more years of Windows support or administration in an enterprise environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional certifications in Information Technology fields
• Demonstrated experience and expertise in analysis, installation, administration, and troubleshooting of all aspects of a client server data network.
• Linux Experience (especially Redhat distributions)
• Experience working on Military, Government, or Research systems in a classified environment
