Overview

The AETC Storage Engineer provides technical support for the engineering and maintenance of the organization's systems infrastructure, including supporting the design and implementation of hardware and software while monitoring the performance of deployed systems.  The position assists with architectural documentation, Time Compliance Technical Order (TCTO) documentation and validation, STIG compliance, status reports and updates, and provides client level support to AETC instructors and courses.  The AETC Storage Engineer assists with coordination among resources and stakeholders for the testing and validation of system upgrades and modifications for new projects and existing deployments.  The position also supports configuration and change managements processes; and ensures project/action plans, updates/upgrade tasks, and potential issues are briefed to appropriate stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and configure training network virtualization and storage equipment for both Microsoft and Linux systems.
  • Provide system administration and maintenance in support of AETC courses/classes.
  • Provide research, documentation, and testing of improved system architectures.
  • Provide support of Blade technologies in a virtualized environment.
  • Provide support regarding the integration and migration of Storage Area Network (SAN) and Network Attached Storage (NAS) technologies.
  • Assist with the design, engineering, and implementation of new storage/virtualization solutions at government request including but not limited to:
  • Assisting with vulnerability assessment and patching in support of ATO/RMF processes
  • Provide insight and recommendations on best practices and environmental limitations for implementation

Qualifications

Requirements

  • 5 – 7 years of progressively responsible network and system support with experience in mid-to-large data center environments.
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in:
    • Demonstrated knowledge of VMWare, CommVault, and NetApp systems
    • Advanced networking concepts, VLAN, trunking and port channel
    • Demonstrated advanced diagnostics and troubleshooting abilities
    • Disaster Recovery - expertise in risk reduction, Hot/Warm site DR architecture, high availability, planning for disaster situations
    • Knowledge of data communications, local-area networking, wide-area networking, routers, and switches
    • Network (Layer 2, 3) LAN/WAN knowledge and switches/routers
    • Thorough understanding of Internet Protocol (IP) routing, switching, and the OSI model.
  • Ability to coordinate activities across multiple agencies while prioritizing critical/high-priority taskings.
  • Possess refined critical thinking skills, should be a self-starter, and multi-task capable.
  • Approach work as diplomatic, adaptive to a dynamic environment, dependable and reliable.

 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related technical discipline, or MIS related field is preferred but not mandatory. 

Required Certifications:

  • CompTIA Security+CE or equivalent at start
  • VCP6-DCV within 60 days

Clearance:

  • Active DoD Secret required with ability to upgrade to Top Secret clearance preferred.
