Overview

SMS is seeking a Principal Engineer IV working at Picatinny Arsenal in Wharton, NJ.  The candidate will support our Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Armaments Center (DEVCOM AC), Weapons and Software Engineering Center (WSEC), and Armament Center Software Factory (ACSF) customers to support the creation and maintenance of Amazon Web Services (AWS) GovCloud cloud based DevSecOps processes, tools, and AWS Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), Software as a Service (SaaS) resources. The objective also includes supporting the Government maintaining and modernizing existing on premise DevSecOps processes, tools, and other Information Technology (IT) infrastructure. An additional objective of this effort includes the development, verification, and validation of the training content and working examples demonstrating AWS service usage to assist the Government to facilitate the building of technical expertise to be reused on their programs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide architecture, systems engineering, software engineering, and software development support for the ACSF development and maintenance, as agreed to by the Government.
  • Advise the Government on general best practices for architecting workloads on AWS Services for Armament SEC identified workloads.
  • Assist Customer running workloads leveraging AWS IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS services.
  • Provide support for the ACSF containerization strategy, providing necessary updates to software components, as agreed to by the Government.
  • Assist the Government with hardening containers per DISA Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs).
  • Assist the Government troubleshooting issues with software running on cArmy provided RHEL 8 and Windows Sever 2019 operating system images.
  • Create, support, maintain and enhance EKS clusters located in separate development, test, and production VPCs allowing the Government to run containerized workloads on top of AWS EC2 Virtual Machine (VM) hosts running cArmy provided Windows and RHEL operating system images.
  • Create, support, maintain and enhance automated Continuous Integration (CI) pipelines with GitLab and GitLab runner components running within EKS integrating automated build, static code analysis, software composition analysis, unit, component, and system testing, containerization and future deployment activities defined within the ACSF by the Government.
    • This support includes but is not limited to CI pipeline jobs triggered by time periods, code pushes, merge requests, and manually for software demonstration, test, and release activities.
  • Plan, integrate and maintain future CI pipeline capabilities as directed by the Government.
  • Plan, architect, design, develop, automate testing and reporting, deploy and maintain software, software libraries and their associated documentation meeting Armament SEC Software Engineering Data Package (SEDP) requirements that support ACSF capabilities as directed by the Government.
  • Ensure all associated build documentation including but not limited to release notes, change logs and bug fixes is placed under configuration control as defined by the Government.
  • Enable, support, and maintain the resources required for the automated collection, storage, and sharing of CI pipeline job generated metrics. Metrics are expected to include but are not limited to:
    • Number of software composition analysis / Software Bill of Materials (SBOM) vulnerabilities found
    • Number of Static Application Security Testing (SAST) defects and vulnerabilities found
    • Identification and overall percentages of technical debt, code smells and ineffective / inefficient software development patterns found by commercial tools
    • Number of automated unit / component / system / integration tests passed, failed, and skipped / deferred including branch and condition coverage results
    • Number of Dynamic Application Security Testing (DAST) defects and vulnerabilities found
  • Support the Government, and any Contractor designated by the Government, during integration, acceptance, and other test activities required to demonstrate that developed capabilities meet requirements and their respective use cases.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Comptia Security+CE
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate

Experience

  • 11 or more years of Gov't contracting experience is preferred.
