    SMS is seeking a dynamic Senior Network Engineer to join our Joint Regional Security Stacks (JRSS) program team in Ft. Meade, MD. This is an exciting key position to a major Department of Defense initiative. The right candidate should possess a strong security background and be current on the latest security products to help drive solutions and management architectures.


    • The candidate will help drive solutions and management architectures of the networking portion of JRSS
    • Will work in the JRSS lab to provide feedback on current solutions, keep current on vendor products, perform testing and help drive future architectures
    • Candidate will also serve in a Tier III Network Engineering role for JRSS. Occasional evening and weekend call outs should be expected.
    • Document and brief architectural changes and test findings
    • Constantly looking for ways to make improvements
    • Willing to work in Tier III environment assisting/working with end user communities of interest, Tier II and the DoD Agencies Tier 1 organizations such as the USAF's 26th Network Operations Squadron (26 NOS) or the Army's 2nd Regional Cyber Center (2RCC) for example.


    • Degree in either Computer Science/Engineering/Information Science and 7+ years equivalent work experience
    • Current IAT level 2 certification
    • Experience with LAN and WAN design and implementation, network security principles, and general network management best practices (Cisco-min. CCNP or Juniper-JNCDS-WAN certifications preferred)
    • Strong hands-on network troubleshooting (MPLS, BGP, OSPF, VRFs, VLANs) and good technical knowledge of general network principles

    Preferred Experience/Qualifications

    • Good knowledge of routers, firewalls, load balancers, VPN’s, and network STIG’s
    • Previous JRSS experience is a plus
    • Good communication skills with strong customer service orientation
    • Self-motivated with problem-solving conviction to develop effective long-term solutions to complex problems
    • Able to effectively prioritize tasks in a high-pressure environment
    • Working knowledge of security threat vectors and network security
    • Comfortable working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
