    SMS is supporting JSP Engineering in a range of IT service support areas. The SMS Engineering Team DBA provides primarily SQL Server and some Oracle database support to the JSP user community, by administering and engineering a high availability, high performance and reliable virtualized infrastructure. The DBA Engineer should have experience in supporting large enterprise environments by administering and maintaining primarily MS Windows and some Linux based servers, all are in a virtual environment and SAN systems. The candidate should be able to exhibit strong communication, collaboration and some project management skills. This position focuses on customer-facing production, Test/QA and Development systems.



    •     Perform installation of new and support existing SQL Server and limited Oracle relational database management systems (RDBMS)
    •     Configure/install SQL Server high availability (HA) databases and disaster recovery (DR) servers on the VMware ESX environment
    •     Maintain patches and upgrades including service packs and check databases for data integrity
    •     Perform audit related scripting, backup/restore operations and security hardening (STIG) as needed
    •     Configure services, set up encryption (TDE) databases and install SSL certificates in accordance with client and project requirements
    •     Develop SQL Server architectural and design diagrams
    •     Maintain documentation related to server configuration, and participate in change management meetings as needed
    •     Follow policies and procedures for change and incident management
    •     Monitor SQL Server event logs and incident tracking
    •     Handle ongoing (Remedy) maintenance and service requests including access issues, and performance tuning (in development, production and QA/Test)
    •     Scripting/automation skills (e.g. SQL and PowerShell)
    •     Troubleshoot technology issues and generate innovative approaches and solutions to recurring issues or tasks
    •     Participate in testing and evaluation of new technologies
    •     Provide assistance to various teams including cyber security, developers, system administrators, project managers and QA testers
    •     Work from the office location during business hours, and if needed provide support for after business hours DBA tasks
    •     Lead team of three other SQL DBAs to carry out tasks




    •     Five (5+) years SQL DBA experience or certification as an IT professional in RDBMS (as MS SQL Server or Oracle DBA/developer) preferred
    •     Demonstrable DBA skills, and ability to communicate with colleagues and work independently
    •     Knowledge and experience with SQL Server, MS Windows Server O/S, Active Directory and Oracle DB/Linux O/S
    •     Possess critical thinking skills, including be diplomatic, be a self-starter as well as direct activities of other team members and multi-task
    •     Prior experience in a government consulting services environment or trusted advisor role is preferred
    •     5-8 years of progressively responsible IT experience in mid-to-large enterprise or data center environments
    •     Candidates should have technical experience in the following areas: Microsoft SQL Server 2012+ and some Oracle 11g+ database
    •     Skilled with the MS Office toolsets, and adhere to policies that support DoD/JSP cyber security/information assurance guidelines


    • Bachelor's degree in a Business Management, Computer Science or MIS related field
    • Certification as an RDBMS (as MS SQL Server or Oracle DBA) IT professional preferred if B.S. degree is in a Business Management field
