    SMS is seeking a Cyber Tools Development specialist to support the DoD's JRSS (Joint Regional Security Stack) deployment activities, a multi-year, global effort to improve the DoD's security posture and provide enhanced security capabilities and analytics by centralizing and virtualizing network security into regional stacks rather than locally distributed appliances.


    In this role, you will support the active and passive Cyber Network Defense (CND) tools deployed in stacks and will assist with initial configuration, troubleshooting, and support one or more products within DISA's CND tool suite: ArcSight, TippingPoint, Sourcefire, Argus, Bro, Fidelis XPS and SSL, Niksun FPCAP, Lancope, Opswat, and Inquest. You will develop, test and implement custom software code to support CND tools and processes, this will include installation, configuration, maintenance and operations scripts used with the CND tools or on their underlying Operating Systems (OSs) and hardware. To be a successful fit to this assignment, you should have 2+ years' expertise in CND tactics, processes and procedures as well as expertise in the design, operation, and tuning of CND tools.  Signature deployment and best practices knowledge is required for applicable tools such as TippingPoint. You should be well versed in TCP/IP communications and in Unix server construction and maintenance. This position is in support of  DISA Joint Regional Security Stacks (JRSS).


    • The candidate will help drive solutions and management architectures of the networking portion of JRSS
    • Will work in the JRSS lab to provide feedback on current solutions, keep current on vendor products, perform testing and help drive future architectures
    • Candidate will also serve in a Tier III Network Engineering role for JRSS. Occasional evening and weekend call outs should be expected.
    • Document and brief architectural changes and test findings
    • Constantly looking for ways to make improvements
    • Willing to work in Tier III environment assisting/working with end user communities of interest, Tier II and the DoD Agencies Tier 1 organizations such as the USAF's 26th Network Operations Squadron (26 NOS) or the Army’s 2nd Regional Cyber Center (2RCC) for example.




    Educations & Experience: 

    Bachelors degree from an accredited college in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 5 years or more of professional experience; or 3-5 years of professional experience with a related Masters degree or equivalent work experience.


    Required Qualifications

    • Expertise in developing, testing and implementing customer software code to support CND tools and processes which includes installing, configuring and maintaining operations scripts and supporting at least two of the following: ArcSight Sourcefire Fidelis XPS Lancope Inquest Opswat Bivio Argus and Bro Tipping Point Additionally, each of the below are required: Knowledge of TCP/IP communications
    • Experience in leading large engineering projects. DoD 8570 IAT2 certification SECRET Security clearance (or ability to obtain one)

    Desired Qualifications

    • Experience with additional CND tools
    • Experience with AD


    DOD Secret clearance is required to begin work on this program.  You must be able to successfully obtain up to Top Secret based on requirements from the customer and program.
