The Telephone Systems Lead is responsible for the Inside Plant, Outside Plant, and Cable work centers at Kirtland AFB. This position oversees the moves, additions, and changes of all telephone services.  Also, this position maintains, modifies, troubleshoots, and repairs the Nortel Meridian SL100 and the Cisco Call Manager supporting all Kirtland C4 customers. Maintains detailed maintenance records and installation activities for equipment throughout Kirtland AFB. Manages the assignment of work orders to all technicians for all telephone moves, adds, changes, LAN cable installations, security alarm extensions, and outside plant cable installation and maintenance. Responsible for the operation, maintenance for telephone equipment and ancillary systems, including but not limited to:

    • Nortel MSL-100 telephone switch
    • Cisco Call Manager
    • Callegra Voice Mail System
    • VESTA E-911 System
    • Cairs Telecommunications Management System (TMS)
    • RTMI Switch Expert server
    • Security-fire alarm circuits and other related services


Job duties include:

  • Coordinates with the customer on specific requirements, and where necessary and appropriate coordinates with other contractors.
  • Must have the ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions, meet with the customer tactfully and courteously and establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with customers and coworkers.
  • Understanding of proper safety practices, procedures, and regulations applicable to work being performed in a telephone switch environment
  • Experience with the tools and test equipment required for the installation and maintenance of telephone and data network services.



  • Three to eight years of progressively responsible voice engineering hands-on experience with Nortel, Avaya, or other digital or analog platforms.
  • Individual must have experience with the MS Office toolsets.
  • Applicant must possess refined critical thinking skills, should be a self-starter, and possess the ability to direct the activities of other team members.
  • Applicant must be diplomatic, multi-task capable, adaptive to a dynamic environment, dependable and reliable. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in a Business Management or MIS related field is preferred, experience in lieu of degree is acceptable; High school diploma required if no degree is present

Desired Licenses/Certificates:

  • Valid New Mexico Driver’s License Required
  • Telephone Journeyman License JS7 – New Mexico Preferred
  • DoD 8570 IAT-II compliance (Security+ CE) Required within three months of hiring
  • Active SECRET security clearance.
